YPA-ers! Another year is coming to its end and with it we're finishing up the decade. We're incredibly happy and proud to have you as our members, to have seen you at events, communicated with you through this newsletter, and to know that you're spreading the word about us. There are many more exciting things to come this next year and we can't wait to share everything with you in the near future. 
In the meantime, we'll be taking a quick holiday break (rest is important and necessary, y'all!) and will be back in your inbox on January 6th. We hope that all of you are able to enjoy some very well-deserved days off and whatever festivities you are celebrating, you are doing it with family, friends, or loved-ones! This week, whether you need to save time for holiday shopping and work parties or want to mingle with your fellow arts workers, our Events section has you covered. No time for a turkey snooze, folks! It's the start of the last month in this decade top of the usual December mode of everyone is trying to cram everything in. To start us off, tomorrow is Giving Tuesday and whether you work in development or not, we're sure you're affected by end-of-year craziness somehow. Don't let yourself get stressed out, let's take a deep breath, and go! We have some fun events for you this week and plenty in our Read section for you to peruse and learn about. And if a new job is in your near future, see the Apply section for some great jobs and the awesome intern program from AFTA. Let's do this!

Whether you observe Thanksgiving or not, hope you enjoy the short work week and a few days of rest. If you are looking for things to do, in our Go section the events are light, so find some time to take in public art or stay in to catch up on podcasts or our packed Reads. Public speaking and delivering compelling stories are just two of the key qualities desired, and this week's read section tackles some other skills for leading with power. Winter weather has swept through the city, and we're hoping you're keeping warm. New Yorkers of course never stop and colder months are the perfect opportunity to visit the new MoMA, catch up on arthouse movies, or make the most of your library card. And if you need a new read, we've got you covered! We have a special YPA book giveaway of Mark Morris's brand-new memoir "Out Loud".

It was marathon Sunday this weekend and what a special day in NYC every year. Over 50,000 runners, each with their own individual story and challenge, cheered on by the whole city to make it to the finish line. It reminds us that we should be cheering each other on more often. When was the last time you told someone they were doing a great job? Let's all celebrate each other's hard work this week!

We hope you had a restful weekend and caught the sunshine on Saturday! We had a wonderful afternoon at LMCC's Arts Center on Governors Island and learned everything about their new space, their artist residency programs, and so many more initiatives they run to support the arts and artists in this city. And if you haven't graced Governors Island with your presence yet this summer, we highly recommend going before it closes for the season at the end of October.

Last week, I made an impulse decision to remedy a tough work day by heading to a performance that I knew nothing about. Within 90 minutes, I was inspired by a new story, heard a different perspective, discovered three new musicians to follow, and left feeling energized. My workload the next day remained just as heavy, yet I arrived refreshed and re-connected to the why behind it all. So this week, follow your gut to where it (or where this vibrant city) leads you—be that to a professional development workshop or just a night at the theater. Because both are good and necessary to getting our work done. Find that balance of business and inspiration-seeking in this week's Read, Go, Listen, and Apply!

This week, for READ, we're looking at how to recession-proof your creative career and how to perfect your LinkedIn profile. Under GO we're excited to share this month's People of Color Theatre Industry Happy Hour and the Speak up, Rise Up festival among other events and our new LISTEN section has two podcast episode gems for you. And another big thank you to all our members who keep sending us job opportunities, we're sharing them here with you to APPLY.

This week, for READ, the latest on the New Museum's union strike, tips for awkward office chat, and a handful of tools to get you through the week. GO brings you to Queens for an Art Fund Info session, DUMBO for a conversation on professional development or the comfort of your living room with online workshops and podcasts to stream. As if the art-packed weekend didn't signal to you yet - the Fall hustle has arrived! Whether you braved the crowds for Printed Matter's NY Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1, bared the a/c-less but compelling containers at Photoville, witnessed Public Art Fund's live performance through nyc - a relayed crawl Conquest by artist Pope.L, or explored Bushwick Open Studios, we hope you managed some down time - cause the season is just getting started. We hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July holiday and enjoyed three (maybe four?) free days last week. It’s amazing how much more energy an extra day off can give us. After all the fireworks and BBQs we’re looking forward to a work week of interesting events to attend from our Go section. Or if you’re so inclined, laying in one of many NYC’s parks and perusing through our Reads for this week. Lastly, what better time to Apply for new opportunities than the summer and start the school year with a new job?
