This past week both YPA co-founders have found themselves out of town, one in Chicago and one in Toronto. While loving the time away from NYC and exploring new cities, can we just say that there's no place like home? What is it with the slow walking pace? We've got museums to see, and performances to watch, and sightseeing to do! In the same vein, we've been reading a mix of learning oriented articles (who knew blockchain would be great for the arts?), admiring people that get up at 4a.m., and lol-ing at our Twitter feeds for a change because of two London museums. Let's hit the ground running this upcoming week!

After a long weekend of perusing Bushwick Open Studios and the Printed Matter's NY Art Book Fair, we are feeling overwhelmed and inspired by the productive creativity flowing in this city. Great motivation to jump into a new week. To go with that, we've gathered articles that tackle equity, professional development, and calls to action. Around town includes a networking opportunity for our curatorial and art-making members and a powerhouse panel on museum representation. The secret to amazing summers in NYC are beach days and weekends away, while weekdays should be spent exploring the many (mostly free!) outdoor activities. Trust us, we're writing this from The Glimmerglass Festival in upstate New York while overlooking Otsego Lake and reminiscing about the incredible Porgy and Bess production that premiered on Friday. While nights in the country are silent bliss, we can't wait to be back in the city and enjoy everything she has to offer. Here's to another action-packed week filled with arts, drinks, and friends!

We made it! A nice long holiday weekend has arrived to celebrate our great (albeit a bit stressful right now) country and with it time to sneak off to enjoy the cool air conditioning in cultural spots around town. This week we are heading to the Park Avenue Armory's unnerving surveillance exploring-installation, Hansel & Gretel created by the brilliant minds of Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, in collaboration with Ai Weiwei. For those looking for a change, our jobs section this week highlights listings and sources in the curatorial, development, and editorial sectors. The summer is usually a slower period for most arts organization so generally, a smoother time to make that job transition. Also be sure to check out the Reads and Feedssection where you can dive into NYFA's article on differentiating worthwhile job posts from the fraudulent listings. For those of you with the opposite problem and nervously debating how to take that next step within your current organization, mark your calendar for June 27th. YPA NYC is partnering with ELNYA for Women in the Arts Mentorship Workshop: Negotiation, an intimate panel discussion and Q&A with Mara Manus (New York State Council on the Arts) and Pauline Willis (The American Federation of Arts) on negotiation strategies. Happy Memorial Day Weekend everyone! We hope you are enjoying the long weekend with some well-deserved time off to relax. Personally, we hit Museum Mile and managed three museums in a day (record?) by hitting up the Rei Kawakubo exhibition at the Met, the current exhibition at the Guggenheim and the Jawlensky exhibition at the Neue Galerie. All highly recommended. We've also been finding some good and bad news this week for arts professionals, so read on to find out more in our Words that Lingered section. This week we went on a Museum themed TedTalk spiral starting with Museum Hack Founder Nick Gray's lecture on how he began loving museums. Side note: If you haven't been on one of his interactive tours of the Met, we recommend this as a great thing to do when your skeptical and not-art minded friends come to visit. They're guaranteed to leave the city with a whole new perspective on what a museum is and have a lot of fun along the way. If your friends and family aren't flocking to visit, and next week is all about you - we collected a line-up of artist lectures, tech symposiums, and women networking panels for you to attend. More good news in our reads round-up, it looks like our jobs are the least likely to be taken over by mindless robots. Apparently creativity can't be hard-wired - go figure. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
